i am but a greek chorus, here to observe and interpret

And my boyfriend is back in the game!  Sadly, he is playing against an incumbent against whom no amount of voodoo appears to affect.

Did everybody have a good mini-break?  I seriously feel as if I haven’t been to work in a week.  My weekend more or less began with the slightly surreal experience of listening to Zaireeka for the first (and honestly, hopefully the last) time.  Zaireeka is, as best as I can tell,  a vanity project of the Flaming Lips.  I’m sorry, did I say “vanity?”  I meant “experimental.”  The set, which seems to have been the brainchild of lead singer Wayne Coyne, comes with 4 discs which are meant to be played simultaneously.  Theoretically, you could  play any number of the discs in concert or separately and create new experiences, which is kind of novel, really.  Also, insane.  Seriously, Wayne is a mix between freaky genius and straight fucking crazy and I have NO IDEA how this did not kill the band’s career.  As for the listening, well—it was unsettling at the beginning and then, as I got used to it, oddly enraptured.  Like a dream in that way, where it starts off and you know you’re dreaming and everything is strange but you kind of settle into it and eventually, you’re no longer surprised by the talking monkeys and flying pies.

Am I the only person who has that dream?

Awesome...so, was Zaireeka just trippy sound...or was it actual music-music with like lyrics and all.

Don't think I haven't noticed the two, count 'em, two new Dawson's Creek references on your blog. Shame on you.

Talkin' 'Bout The Smiling Death Porn Immortality Blues is the best work by the FL (in this hacks opinion) but I have always wanted to hear this 4 disc dealie. I read once that there was not enough information space on a single CD to encode all of the audio data he needed.
